Stars of LCR

This page is dedicated to the cats who through us, and thanks to you, have found a new and happy life. Scroll down to see photos of these very happy cats.

Nina and Maisy, two lucky cats

'D' & 'P' recently adopted two lovely girls, now known as Nina and Maisy." They have settled in really well, Maisy took a little longer as she was so shy to start with and cowered when we went to stroke her. She is showing her affection more and more each day and even rolls over to have her tummy tickled! Nina is into everything and follows us around the house, pushing her nose at us for extra petting. She is an absolute delight. They now play happily with us or together with their toys and have a daily 'mad' hour tearing up and down the stairs chasing balls and stuffed mice. They are very good at going through the cat flap to get in and out of the house. They brought us a present the other day, a small mole! They are exploring the area around the house and I periodically check on them to make sure they don't get up to too much mischief. Invariably they come running, Maisy leading the way crying 'I'm here, I'm here'."

Mr Tiggs the cat'M' & 'S' adopted Tigger (re-named Mr Tiggs) in February. "We got him from LCR only just over a week ago and as you can see he has settled in VERY well and made himself quite at home, thankyou very much! He seems very happy and has enjoyed supervised outings in the garden so far. He will be the proud owner of a new cat flap after he's been micro-chipped. Both me and my husband love him to bits. He is a lovely (and slightly odd!) big cat."

Mylo the star cat

'I' & 'M' were adopted by Terry (now renamed Mylo) in January and it's safe to say he now rules the house and us completely! In fact within an hour of arriving at the house he had choosen the best spot in the living room for his own! He was not shy at all and was into everything right away, checking it out! He is very playful and naughty but we love that and he is constantly entertaining us. Thank you for introducing us and for all the good work LCR do!

Barney the cat

'M' has sent some photos of "her boys" Benji and Barney (previously Cookie & Oscar). Benji and Barney at the shelter "One was taken at the Shelter in September before I got them, the other 2 were taken after they decided that snow could be good fun although Benji looks as though he's not too sure! Benji the cat They settled down really well once they were able to get out and they love the garden (ours as well as most of the neighbours!). They can both be really affectionate which is nice and my husband has fallen in love with Benji who curls up happily on his knee in the evening!"

Puff the star cat

'D' & her family adopted Ronan (now known as Puff, as in puff-of-smoke) recently. "He is doing really well here in the Highlands. He is very affectionate and cuddly (sometimes even clingy, which is fine) when he remembers who we are, i.e. the good guys. He is still very timid and wary of strangers, hides a lot, but he is wonderful! He hasn't been outside yet, as he still hasn't fully explored the house and as far as being a mouser ... he is probably scared of mice! Wouldn't be without him. Thank you for your relaxed and welcoming approach."

Molly with Tiggs & a spaniel

'P' & 'L' adopted Molly on 23 January after seeing she had lived with a dog and other cats. "As you will see from the attached pic, she has settled in pretty well and is taking our current cat and 2 Springer Spaniels in her stride! She is asserting herself as the boss of the house, and in the last day or so she and Tiggs have started to play. We are really pleased about this as we have mainly been a dog-oriented house and we really wanted another cat tp keep Tiggs company. If things keep going as well as they have in the first week then we shall all be delighted. Molly is such an entertaining wee soul and it feels as if she has been here for ages. Many thanks, LCR, you have found us a treasure!!"

Jack and Vera, two lovable young cats.

Jack and Vera, recently rehomed, wrote a very long letter telling us how they were getting on. Here is a small part of it: "We love to lie in the sink or the bath and drink from the tap. Vera sleeps in the laundry basket and I sleep on mummy and daddy's bed! We are now eating adult Whiskas, and get Iams for a treat; we drink milk and lots of water. We also like to see what mummy and daddy eat, and sometimes we get a bit if we are good. Mummy always feeds scraps to the birds, but I go out and bring some back in!! I get a telling off from mummy for doing that."

Kitty the little star cat'L' helped out a couple of months ago at the shelter and took home Charlie, renamed Kitty. "Everyone thinks calling a cat Kitty is a bit strange but I don't, I think it's a lovely name! Kitty has settled in very well and loves to play with her toys and in the snow. She sits and stares at the fish (luckly we have a lid on the tank, if we didnt she would eat them!). When I am doing my homework Kitty comes up and always wants attenion. Everyone in my family loves her and she gets on with the other cats in the estate very well. Thank you so much for finding us the perfect little cat."

Shane the cat

When 'C' first got Shane, he was very timid and always hid. "Now he is gradually coming out of his shell and getting used to the family. He is VERY vocal when he wants food and loves sweetie wrappers to play with and so, as you can imagine, he had a ball on Christmas day! He likes to have a daft half hour at night, jumping over the sofa and chairs - usually resulting in something being knocked over! Shane is settling in well and here's a picture of him."

Cleo the star cat

'M', aged 11, adopted Cleo on the 24th of September in 2007. "We had a look at all of the cats, it was a very difficult decision, but Cleo was so beautiful and purry, we just had to take her home. We bought her a carry case and a scratching post with a bed underneath. At first Cleo was rather shy and just hid inside her bed but we managed to tempt her out with a slice of ham! She then settled in very well and she has been enormous fun ever since! She loves to chase anything that moves and will play with a paper bag for hours! Me and my brothers enjoy endless hours of fun and games with her every day! She is a very important member of our family now. Thank you Lothian Cat Rescue for giving us the perfect little puss."

Kuki the cat asleep

'L' came across the centre by accident on returning from a car trip last June. "I shown around by a lady called Nicki; after having a look at the cats we settled for a lovely big boy called 'Colin' and got him home the next day! Kuki the cat, in the grass He settled in straight away - rolled about in the middle of living room, then went to sleep - now where he usually 'flops' as you can see from the pic!! We renamed him Kuki. After moving house a few months later he was allowed out to play. He is a VERY vocal; cat what a laugh we get. He would eat non stop if he was allowed, rules the roost and loves nothing better than big cuddles. He follows me around the house all day and loves watching animal rescue programmes on TV, when they come on he sits right in front of the TV! He is very much loved in his forever home and a big thank you to all the staff, keep up the great work... I may be back soon....."

Poppy the cat

'R' adopted Poppy on the 24th January 2010, "a very difficult decision to make with all the lovely cats you have. I found Poppy hiding under her blanket in a pen very timid and scared but within a day she was out exploring her new home, running for cover at the slightest noise, gaining confidence every day. Poppy having a stretch A totally different cat now, she is very friendly, loves looking out the window and chasing and bouncing on everything that moves. She loves food, rolling around and snoozing! Although Poppy shows no interest in the outdoors just now she may change her mind when the weather improves."

Bonnie & Clyde'R' & 'I' rehomed Sindy and Sammy at the end of January and wanted to let us know how they are getting on. "We renamed them Bonnie and Clyde due to their tendency to be partners in crime (although we're still deciding who is the ringleader!). They are settling in well and are looking forward to getting outside to explore the garden now they've been microchipped. As you can see from the photo they have made themselves at home, claiming a large part of the bed for themselves straight away. We love having them and can't imagine the house without them. We also wanted to thank the staff for all their help on the day we came to the shelter."

Buzz the star cat'L' rehomed Buzz in November 2004. "He is very special to us. He had a run in with a fox two years ago and nearly lost his back leg but now is fighting fit and his old self again. He is the laziest most pampered cat - spending 3/4 of the day sleeing, and the other 1/4 alternating between eating and being chased by our rabbit."

Zyra & Bellus, two gorgeous young cats

'L' and her family rehomed Robbie and Fluffy (now re-named Bellus and Zyra) recently. "Both cats made themselves thoroughly at home within minutes of arriving. Zyra in particular, despite being the younger, female cat, led the way. She arrived in our house at 3.30pm and by 7.30 that evening she had worn out our two sons, playing with cat toys and balls. They both love to socialise, often settling together on the blanket box at the top of our stairs - unfortunately this is where the boys lay out their school uniforms, but the cats just view shirts and blazers as bedding material! Both cats have now been micro-chipped and fitted with collars (they were not overly keen on either operation!) and have delightedly taken possession of our garden. The snow is now covered in cat paw-prints where they have taken their habit of ambushing each other from any available vantage point into the great outdoors. They are gorgeous, affectionate, playful, easy-going cats and are already firmly part of the family. And Zyra has stopped trying to climb up the chimney which is a relief: removing a cat from a chimney is not the ideal way to spend a Sunday morning! Thank you so much for letting us adopt them both, and keep up the good work!"

Charlie the star cat

'L', 'G' & 'B' have sent in a photo they've taken recently of Pumpkin (renamed Charlie). "He is doing brilliantly and is just a wee darling boy! Whenever any of you are in Armadale you must come and visit him - but don't take him away with you! You are doing a wonderful job - keep up the good work.

Robbie and Ruari, two star cats

'C' rehomed Walter and Dado - now known as Robbie and Ruari - last September. "They are a delightful pair, and have settled in very well to their new home. Robbie hasn't changed and still has a huge appetite, so they get fed separately; otherwise Ruari would get very little food! They love the cat flap and are keen to go out mousing and, unfortunately, birding as well, but that's cats for you. Although they are identical in colouring to my previous cats, they have their own little ways, they are very friendly, and I'm glad I've got them as they are great company."

Gem the cat

"It is Gem here, although you know me as Anne the 15 week old female kitten, but my mum liked Gem better, I think it suits me too. I have settled in here really well and I love being mischievous and affectionate. I have a new brother here called Milo, he is 4. He was a bit grumpy to start with but I think he loves me now!!! (I mean, who wouldn't ?) He plays with me sometimes which is fun. There is also Tilly who is my doggy friend, she has been great and I am not frightened at all. The kids are all really good with me and I love playing with them and getting lots of cuddles. I am eating up all my meals. Thank you for looking after me and finding me a home (I love it!)."

Muffin and Cookie, two happy kittens

'F' adopted Muffin and Cookie (originally called Bruce and Tina by their foster dad). They were on our Homed Kittem=ns page but now they are here, on our Star Cats page. "They have settled in so well, and are very happy, and normally very well behaved. They have had great fun with the Christmas tree this year. Also in the picture is Boris my 4 year old who is the perfect 'Daddy' to the kittens, he is so good with them, grooming them and playing with them."

Suzie the cat

'G' and her mum 'R' adopted Suzie from LCR. "Taking a photo has been a lot harder than you would expect, as every time I, (or anyone else for that matter) has visited the house, Suzie bolts into the smallest of spaces and will not come out. Fortunately, she is not like that with my Mum. Hopefully, she will get over this. She is doing well and has my Mum well trained! She has shown no interest in going outside - we wondered if she has been a house cat? Mind you, with the weather we have had recently, who would want to go outside if you did not have to. She is beginning to respond to her name and behaved very well at the vets when we took her for her injections and to be micro-chipped. She is giving my Mum a lot of pleasure and is good company for her, so thank you for letting us adopt her."

Harry the cat opening his presents

'B' adopted Harry (formerly Twopence) recently and has sent us this letter from Harry: "Hello, I thought you might like a photo of me opening my Christmas presents. Life here is quite good, the old couple seamed to have picked up my personal requirements quickly and run around after me all day. Harry the cat I am in and out all day but like to be tucked in my favourite chair for evenings and the middle of their bed for nights. I have taken up gardening, meeting the neighbours, car maintenance and indeed helping out in the office! I love food and try to go a la carte as much as possible, the odd shrimp goes down vey well. I am trying to improve my collar loss ratio, I have lost well into double figures! It's nice to change colour regularly. Bye for now, and thanks for finding such a suitable butler and house keeper - a quick purr keeps them happy. Cheers, Harry"
