If you know of anyone who has an unneutered /unspayed cat, please try to encourage them to have their cat neutered or spayed and help to stop the flow of unwanted animals. If people feel they cannot afford to have their cats neutered or spayed, LCR has a neutering scheme and may be able to help.
Last year, especially in West Lothian, a very large number of cats were spayed or neutered. Hopefully we will see the benefits of all the neutering in the years ahead with fewer unwanted cats and kittens.
L.C.R. is very short of kitten fosterers. As you can read on our 'All in a Day's Work' page, we often need to call on fosterers at very short notice to help look after newly born kittens and their mums. If you would be able to home a mother cat and kittens and are willing to help, please phone the Wardens on 01875 821025.
We are extremely short of staff for the shop. Our present staff do a wonderful job keeping the shop open but they are having to do a lot of extra hours to cover holidays and ill-health. Do you have a few hours a week spare to volunteer and keep our shop raising money for LCR? If you are interested please phone the shop on 0131 661 3411 and ask for Mrs Kean.

Many thanks to Pam, Lea, the rest of the staff and the regulars at the Captain's Bar, College Street, Edinburgh who collected £70 for Lothian Cat Rescue on their charity night. The Captain's Bar is a traditional old pub on the southside of Edinburgh. They have regular folk music sessions, check them out at www.captainsedinburgh.webs.com
It is with tremendous sorrow that we report the death on 14 August 2011 of Anne Leask. Anne became a member of Lothian Cat Rescue in the mid 1980s and took over as secretary in late 1988. We depended greatly on her organisational skills. She also worked very hard for many years fostering mother cats and kittens. She was a truly dedicated animal welfarist and could always be depended upon when trouble struck the organisation, and it did on a number of occasions. Anne will be missed by many; she was a good friend, great secretary and a very good lady.
One of our Cats Needing Homes, Angel, was hit on the road on Tuesday 8 November and, as usual, the driver didn't bother to stop. She was taken to the vet with a shattered nose, damaged eye and broken tooth. She has now been homed, being spoiled rotten and eating as if there was no tomorrow (and there very nearly wasn't for poor Angel!). It is amazing how well she has done, considering how hard she was hit. This is why we decided to take some action to slow the traffic down and give our cats, staff, volunteers and customers a chance to cross safely.

On Monday 19 September we invited the papers along to the shelter to make people aware of the danger this road holds. The more support we have, the better chance we have of making Midlothian Council realise some action must be taken, and representatives of the Edinburgh Evening News and Scottish Television came along. You can see the television news feature on YouTube here.

If you couldn't make it, we have set up an online petition on our website and there will also be a petition at our charity shop in Easter Road, Edinburgh. We hope all you cat lovers out there will help meeeeoooooowwwwww xxxxxxxx
